New York, New York
NYC is great. Although you shouldn’t trust your city guides. It told me that you get a Manhattan cab flat of 30-40$ and in the end I paid 60 plus tolls (another 19$). I was told that this is actually a fair price because I suspected I might have been ripped of.
I arrived at the POD Hotel relatively late (around 10pm) and so we did not do too much. My friend was already here and so I just dropped my bags, took my D90 and we went for a 2hrs stroll through Manhattan, heading to Times Square and back again. Before going to bed we went up on our roof terrace and enjoyed the nice view from the hotel roof (15th floor)!
Today we had a nice and long breakfast at the hotel and then walked to the City University New York, where the conference is held. So far we did not see anything spectacular (topic or presentation wise). Tomorrow we will both take the time we have to finalize our own talks (which will be spectacular:)) and then there will be a meeting of like-minded researchers at the New School and a little cocktail party at my supervisor’s supervisor’s penthouse apartment in the village:D
Our talks are on Wednesday which is also the last day of the conference so we have a couple of days to enjoy the city and do some serious sight seeing. Although we already spent the afternoon walking through the city and exploring Central Park and Midtown.
I already shot 250 pictures and I hope that 10% are actually usable. I’ll post some here later!
